Its layout matches the operation of an ENG camera and allows for mobility and shoulder-mounted options.

The AJ-PX230 features three 1/3" MOS sensors that create a dramatic color, low noise, and bokeh effects. The wide-angle zoom lens is constructed of UHR glass and features 18 elements in 12 groups. Its 35mm-equivalent focal length with a 22x optical zoom ranges from 28 to 616mm. The camera's Optical Image Stabilizer provides anti-shake correction for smooth movement, and the three-ring lens design allows for precision iris/focus/zoom manual control. The shutter system functions in three modes: System, Slow, and Syncro Scan, which allow shutter speeds from 1/1 to 1/250 sec. The three-position gain switch allows for greater control over brightness and shutter, and the Super Gain function allows for extra-high sensitivity in low light.

Recording functions include HD and SD resolutions up to 1080p60; DVCPRO, AVC-LongG, and AVC-Intra formats with MPEG-4, DV, and H.264 compression, frame rates up to 60 fps, Pre Rec pre-recording function, interval recording for time-lapse, freeze frame, timestamps, and 24-bit AVC-Intra or 16-bit AVC-LongG/DVCPRO 48 kHz four-channel stereo audio. Two slots record onto microP2 media and support simultaneous recording which allows you to record on both cards at once, or hot-swap recording so you don't have to stop the camera to switch cards. Recording to external P2 media is also supported via a USB 2.0 Type-A output. The camera supports stereo audio input, HDMI and 3G/HD/SD-SDI video and audio output, and 3.5mm stereo headphone output. The camera also supports tally and remote control of the iris, zoom, focus, and start/stop.

The AJ-PX230's auto-assist operations feature a variety of tasks such as autofocus, automatic white balance, one-touch AF, manual focus assist, and focus preset transition, as well as peaking, auto iris, zebra, shutter, marker, and brightness display functions. Image adjustment presets include dynamic range, seven selectable gamma modes, and preset scene files with slots for custom scene files. Use the 3.5" HD display or the .5" OLED viewfinder to preview your video and view your settings.
